It always seems so arbitrary. If you make a comics section, you'll always know that that's where it goes. comment by Moss // Friday, the 28th of December, 2007, at 10:10 in the evening But it seems kind of silly to put things together based only on an essentially irrelevant property. I have a comics section, but it's for episodic comics like Calvin and Hobbes or Mafalda or what have you. (As it turned out, Ms Satrapi wound up living amongst the memoirs, between George Orwell and David Sedaris.) comment by Martin // Saturday, the 29th of December, 2007, at 12:03 at night That logic has appealed to me at various times, but now I think I'd say keeping different media in different places is perfectly natural. Or else you should be mixing the DVDs and CDs in, too. comment by Moss // Saturday, the 29th of December, 2007, at 1:32 at night DVDs and CDs aren't human-readable. That's a rather significant difference. The fact that Satrapi chose to depict her memoirs graphically is not, particularly. And I would argue that the slippery slope goes both ways—what about The Little Prince or Edward Gorey or any other book that, while not a "comic" in any sense, still relies heavily on illustration to tell its story? comment by Martin // Saturday, the 29th of December, 2007, at 7:52 in the morning We have graphic novels separated from other books, but that decision is made easier since (as you might imagine) we have two entire bookcases for graphic novels. We have another one for oversized books that don't fit nicely on other shelves: that's where both Gorey and Tufte are. comment by Liz // Saturday, the 29th of December, 2007, at 8:47 in the morning I can't categorize because I will have to make questionable decisions! So I don't categorize, and stuff goes on the shelf anyhow. comment by patrick // Saturday, the 29th of December, 2007, at 12:43 in the afternoon Sorry: This thread has shown no activity in 7 days, so to prevent comment spam all commenters are currently required to answer a Very Simple Question.
