On Trivial Pursuits

Wednesday the Twenty-Fourth of August, Twenty Eleven

It's not the phrase "evil Cardassians"; that's just kind of funny.

This is the first sentence of Netflix's blurb about Star Trek: Voyager:

The only Star Trek saga to feature a female captain, this series follows Capt. Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and her USS Voyager crew as they embark on a 75-year journey to return to Earth after becoming stranded in a remote part of the galaxy.
And this is the first sentence of the blurb for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine:
This installment of the Star Trek canon centers around the crew of the space station Deep Space Nine, formerly an outpost of the evil Cardassians that has been placed under the control of the Federation and commanding officer Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks).
Any guesses as to what I find rather remarkable about those two sentences?

The use of "saga" and "canon"? I really have no idea.

Being the first female lead is noteworthy and being the first black lead isn't? Interesting.

Libby's all over it. Why is it necessary to point out her genitals in the first few words?

It's hardly Netflix's fault, of course—the fact that the writers never quite knew how to portray Janeway as a powerful but not masculine captain was one of the biggest problems with the show. Which is somewhat understandable, I guess; no one ever said "Sisko's poor command decision just goes to show why black people can't command." Still, I wish they had just picked a direction for her character and run with it. (This, like most of Voyager's faults, comes down to a crappy showrunner and an inadequate show bible.)

The Very Simple Question: How did George Bernard Shaw claim one might spell "fish", using the "gh" from "trough", the "o" from "women", and the "ti" from "nation"?
